In Virginia Beach, CHWs partnered with the H.O.P.E. Hub of the Virginia Beach Public Health Foundation to distribute essential items and provide health education, Medicaid and Medicare enrollment assistance, and connections to supportive resources for returning citizens and individuals experiencing homelessness. Simultaneously, a team of CHWs extended outreach to women and children at Union Mission Ministries in Norfolk, supporting families navigating housing instability and other social challenges.
The day exemplified the power of community-centered public health, bringing culturally responsive care directly to underserved populations while deepening partnerships with two vital community organizations. By meeting people where they are, the initiative reinforced the Center for Public Health at NSU Initiatives’ commitment to reducing health disparities and advancing dignity, access and equity across the region.
