National Minority Health Month  |  April 4, 2022

The Center for Public Health Initiatives at NSU partnered with WNSB 91.1 FM to recognize National Minority Health Month, joining the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health in highlighting health equity for racial and ethnic minority communities.

Under the 2022 theme “Give Your Community a Boost!,” the segment focused on combating COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and addressing health misinformation affecting minority populations. Topics covered included the continued effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death, as well as how to identify and stop the spread of health misinformation circulating through social media, text messages and online platforms.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, unvaccinated adults were 16 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than fully vaccinated adults through late December 2021 — a disparity with significant implications for minority communities.
